Because doing performance helped this naturally shy person to become confident when speaking in public.
Because it gave me valuable training in being part of a complex project (a theatrical production) where there were many different groups of people involved (e.g. the cast, the crew etc.) and we needed to compromise and work together to create something.
Because it gave me the clearest examples I have ever had of the idea that it is not whether or not a mistake is made that determines someone’s quality, but how they handle that mistake (e.g. how well can an actor adapt and staying character if they forget their lines or a prop breaks).
Because there is a performative aspect to any form of teaching in that you have to hold the interest of a student/class in a similar way to holding the interest of an audience in a theatre.
Because I (eventually) learnt how to project my voice a little bit.
